I'm not done

Tom turkey was done, though!
We had a wonderfully relaxing Thanksgiving--my favorite holiday--and I didn't do a hell of a lot the rest of the weekend. Oh some housework, laundry, some knitting. Not much Christmas preparation. I am one of those people who get cranky hearing the Christmas music and seeing Santa at the Mall BEFORE I've had my turkey day. Really, why do we have to start so early?
I know that growing up, my family was a little unusual in that we didn't put our tree up until Christmas Eve, that was our tradition, to put it up and decorate it together. And I think it is a good idea to get tasks spread out throughout the season...but I feel sad when I hear people say (and I do hear this expression often)..."I just want to get it over"...if it's something you just want to get over with, why do it? Doesn't sound like much fun! I guess it just goes along with my feeling that you have to enjoy the JOURNEY...the process is just as important as the product!
So, I'm not "done", I'm barely started but for quite a few years I've kind of made a commitment not to rush through the season. I used to fret more about getting my packages in the mail, but you know what? It always seems to work out OK in the end. Some of my favorite gifts that I've given have ended up being the ones that I "sat on" and thought about for a while. Ditto on the Christmas pictures of the kids. (And yes, I still like to send and receive real photos...I guess I'm very tactile and like to touch stuff!)
And in keeping with my theory that baseball is the perfect metaphor for life...if I don't hit a home run this year, there's always the next season!
